DavidMellor Design Project

"To design a product which would be sold in the David Mellor shop"

In response to this brief a simple, humble product was the objective while deciding to adhere to a design movement of Organic Modernism, a time period David Mellor grew up through.

The choice to design a toast rack was made after understanding the deep history of David Mellor’s early products and the impact of the 1963 British embassy range commissioned by the UK government. The silver sterling toast rack was a part of this range, an elegant piece, which I sought out to develop.

The product, a chrome toast rack with angled dividers, portraying the toast at a better viewing angle. This concept also has an American Walnut base, which the toast rack would sit in as well as catch crumbs which was given a polished finish to allow it to be easily wiped clean.
